Why choose ellaOne?

Unlike some other forms of emergency contraception, which are ineffective after 72 hours following sexual intercourse, ellaOne remains up to 95% effective for up to 120 hours. However, it is recommended that it is taken as soon as possible. It is safe for the majority of women to use and is usually well tolerated. However, there are a few medical conditions that can make this treatment unsuitable. To decide if ellaOne if right for you, you can speak to our experts at Europa for more information and advice.

What dose should I choose?

The dosage is usually one single tablet. However, it’s important to check that this medication is suitable for you. It should not be used by women who may already be pregnant, are allergic to any ingredients within the drug, have asthma or have any problems related to lactose metabolism. It is highly recommended that you seek the advice of a medical professional, such as a pharmacist or our team at Europa, before you choose to take this medication.

How should I take ellaOne?

Treatment is simply a single tablet and is ingested orally. It should be taken as soon as possible after intercouse, with or without food. If vomiting or diarrhoea occurs within two to three hours of taking it, another dose of the medication should be taken immediately.

How does ellaOne work?

This medication contains ulipristal acetate, which essentially puts a stop to the female sex hormone progesterone. It prevents pregnancy by delaying or stopping ovulation. The body is tricked into believing that ovulation has already taken place and so the treatment prevents any further egg release from the ovaries.

What are the side effects of ellaOne?

Taking ellaOne has not been known to cause any serious or long-term health concerns. However, it may have the following side effects: headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, dizziness, tiredness, mood changes and breast swelling. If you experience any severe symptoms after taking this medication, it is important to seek medical advice as soon as possible.
